Virginia Waste Solutions Forum
Project Description We propose to reduce nitrogen (N) and P loads to surface and ground water, by concentrating manure and litter nutrients and increased demand for manure and litter byproducts (struvite, pyrolysis char, compost). The efforts of the market maker will improve utilization and marketing to ensure export of these products.
- Generate revenue from manure on poultry farms via bioenergy production;
- decrease the cost of manure transport through nutrient concentration technologies;
- increase markets for manure.

Expected Outcomes
- Remove 5.8 million lb. of P and 2,000 lb. of N from the Bay watershed through pyrolysis conversion.
- 122,000 lb. of P and 12,000 lb. of N will be isolated for marketing out of the watershed per year by using struvite crystallization .
- 666-1330 tons of N/yr. and 444-888 tons P/yr. will be removed for erosion control and revegetation in the Shenandoah Valley.
- 1,000 acres will benefit from sediment and erosion control and revegetation.
- 80 acres in wildflower production will benefit from fertilization.
