Tracy Stiles Memorial Scholarship

Tracy Stiles The Virginia Tech Dairy Science Alumni Association has established a scholarship in memory of Tracy Stiles.  Mr. Stiles died November 4, 2000 at his home.  He was a 1977 dairy science graduate of Virginia Tech where he was a member of the Virginia Tech Dairy Club and Alpha Gamma Rho agriculture fraternity.  He and his wife, Janet, operated Shenandoah Jerseys dairy farm near Boonsboro, Maryland.  He was formerly a partner with his brothers at Waverly Farm in Clearbrook.

Mr. Stiles had been named the William M. Etgen Outstanding Young Alumnus from Virginia Tech Dairy Science, the W. Ray Murley Virginia Distinguished Dairyman from the Virginia State Dairymen's Association, 1981 Outstanding Young Jersey Dairyman from the American Jersey Cattle Association, 1999 Master Breeder for the American Jersey Cattle Association, National Distinguished Cattle Breeder from the National Dairy Shrine, and the Genetic Advancement Award winner from the Maryland Jersey Cattle Association.  He had the fourth highest Jersey herd in milk production in the United States.

He was a board member of the Mideast Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Washington County Ag Expo and Maryland Jersey Cattle Association.  He was a charter member of the Maryland Dairy Industry Association, past president of Virginia Jersey Cattle Club, and Frederick County, Virginia Dairy Herd Improvement Association.  He was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church.

Donations

Donations to the scholarship fund may be made payable to the "Dairy Foundation of Virginia, Tracy Stiles Fund", and sent to Dale Gardner's attention at the Virginia State Dairymen's Association.

Scholarship Criteria

Selection is based primarily on financial need with preference given to students planning to return to the home farm or enter a career in dairy herd management. Moderate preference is given to students with a background in Jersey cattle. Scholastic achievement, activities, and leadership potential also receive strong consideration.
